At the end of January 2022, the province started excavating Laakland, the new flooding area in Beerse, co-designed with the local stakeholders. The drainage of the excavated soil will be an important part of the work. New constructions will lead the water in or out of the area in a controlled manner at various locations. Simultaneously with these works, Fluvius and the local government of Beerse are also carrying out sewerage works in Heibergstraat. These works must ensure that only rainwater reaches the flood area.

Construction of the flood plain will take approximately six months. In the autumn of 2022, the area will be laid out and planted in collaboration with Regional Landscape Kleine and Grote Nete and the local government of Beerse.
